"Loved the piece of history portrayed in this film. I didn't know that Canada had such a case. For me, a US citizen, it is fascinating to learn about our good neighbors' history, at least from films. It looks like this film kept the historical facts as accurate as it could. Nice job. I am glad I got it. nice packaging too."

"I can't quite tell you why this film captured my attention, but from the outset its stylized production style, make up and acting kept me involved in it. A film by Florin Marksteiner, a talented young Canadian director, it revisits the 1890 Birchall-Benwell Affair. Surely one of the most sensational murder cases in Canadian history, I believe it was one of the the earliest as well. The true tale is dramatically re-created and its short running time lends itself to the style. You, like I, may find yourself totally immersed for 40 mins."

"So I just played the film with my friend, and she said that the film helped her visualize some points of the story as well.  So I repeat my thanks to you for the film.  And as I re-watched it, I am more sure of my decision to devote a page in the book to the production, as well as the graphics that you will provide.  I'm going to steal an idea from Anne Rule and put your graphics in the middle of the book."

"Wow! Mark Cowling has proved some really good acting skills. When you came to hanging, it was awesome. It looks like Florin really enjoyed his hangman work!  Seriously, his looks and body action just made! I found it very nice to see the actors at the end. First class work we really enjoyed the film"

"This DVD is filled with suspense. Posing as British aristocrat with his friend in Oxford County, Ontario, Rex (Reginald Birchall) believes he has a good method thought up to get fast money by persuading Englishmen to come to Canada. He does this by promising them a fabulous life gained through a nonexistent farm. After a body is discovered, so is the scheme and the court hearings soon follow in Woodstock.

After being found guilty despite a strong defense by an attorney, Rex is sentenced to be hung. Florence in her love for him does all she can to prove his innocence but he still ends up paying the ultimate price of death. Viewers are left to wonder if he was truly innocent and hung unjustifiably. Also, how could such a deep story line be written with so much insight and surrealism? Could Rex be the author of such a powerful autobiography? All I know is that your attention will be kept the entire time throughout this film, and I highly recommend it!"
